Band Promotion and Marketing – The best way to Market Band and obtain More Gigs

I thought about offering this post on band promotion since i have often heard new bands and struggling musicians wishing they were more paying gigs. Receiving a paying gig is great, I mean… you may spend lots of time, energy and even cash on having your act together.. rehearsing, touring rehearsals and gigs (gas could be a pain in the event you travel by car), buying your gear, etc. But earning money gigs for new acts can be very difficult.

Because i realize its great to have paid, I would not mean to convey think about a band as a business. Some tips i am saying is, it would be practical to no less than have your costs covered.

Naturally, that would depend upon both you and your explanations why you have a band initially.

Some bands want to play; love to play; feel that playing and becoming their music out there is the best compensation there’s… along with the return of their acquisition of effort, time and money is the fact that chance to get up there and PLAY. There’s also individuals that work on a long-term goal like building their very own following and becoming their music across to them.

The reasons why you do it, virtually sums it down.

But, in the event you wished to get paying gigs, here are a couple things you can do.

1. Work on Your product or service

Now and then I discover a client who struggles with promoting their product or service, and place in many effort and then get minimal results. The primary reason is, they have not been able to accurately develop, define and refine their product, which is why aggressively promoting something mediocre will usually yield mediocre results.

So what exactly is your products? The band, along with your music. The key question is how would you set yourself independent of the rest. What exactly is it you accomplish that is exclusive, or the gender chart which can be done better than all the others?

“What are you wanting visitors to remember and LIKE you for?”

2. Define Your Music/Repertoire

Repertoire defines which kind of band you might be. It also defines who your audience is. I think writing and recording original materials are great because insurance agencies your own music you develop a good thing that others will not have. It can be that final quantity of a collaborative creative effort that music industry BUT, will not guarantee success, since to your band being successfully renowned for your own music, you’ll first should attract viewers that gets to hear and regards.

On the same note, as a cover band does not mean you cannot get paying gigs. There are tons of canopy bands which get paid well for small bar gigs or even major events.

Just what it relies on may be the novelty with the band, along with your draw. Novelty is the fact that something with regards to you that folks will want to come see; along with your draw may be the size everyone else it is possible to gather your gigs.

3. Market Yourself

You would need to sell yourself to individuals who you suspect would thank you for band and just what you are offering. There are basically 2 types of people you want to sell to; you’ll find those who you desire coming to your gigs and appreciating your own music, along with the those people who are capable of hire you for gigs.

This can really be the classic “the chicken or egg scenario”, in which you actually grow your audience and obtain more exposure when you are playing more gigs, but to get additional gigs you got to have invited or hired by people that have a hand to produce gigs happen.

But it don’t have to be complicated. Simply do both concurrently.

Networking is key. Greater people you are free to meet, the harder contacts you identify, the closer you are free to your goals.

4. Management / Representation

You have to have a manager. A specialist figure who you trust and depend on to get results for nothing more than the success and well-being with the band.

A supervisor needs to be a tenacious businessman. He or she is a negotiator, understands marketing, and even more importantly he believes within the product he is entrusted with. His absolute goal would be to sustain and develop further the product or service he manages.

Using a manager will surely have many perks, and something of the things managers being able to do that bands that manage themselves cannot, is be objective. The manager sees something that individual members within a band tend not to see, this runs specifically true when some folks this rock band develop egos that cloud their judgment. Members tend to get tunnel vision and may also not respond well along with other people’s opinions that will not be flattering, a manager knows if criticisms are valid and take these not emotionally but objectively.

A supervisor is both part of the viewers and outsider; an affiliate as they works together with the viewers to realize their goals. He or she is an outsider who can make rational decisions and even be critical with the group whether it fails to deliver what their audience expects.

Musicians can sometimes be essentially the most stubborn of folks, along with the least receptive to criticism, along with a trusted opinion from an authority figure can help this rock band try to better the product or service. Understand that the manager is above all a business person, and he runs this rock band which is “profitable”… the easier to promote a band, the harder money it can make, the harder money the manager makes as well.

Managers also need to be very aggressive and protracted, a friend of mine (a manager for a huge act) once explained a story about how she approached bar after bar and then get denied each time and it was given all kinds of reasons and excuses. She never threw in the towel, and did not stop trying her band… today that band is often a major recording artist… and in actual fact they have been big for quite a while now.
