Back Round Again: The Returning Of Large Round Glasses

Using a lot of new materials and production methods invented inside the mid-20th century, a barrage of new frame styles soon followed suit and massive round frames found they’d slipped from the stylistic radar. This wasn’t no more the line for round frames though. Oh no! Whether or not it would be a nod for the intellectual heroes which in fact had worn them decades before, or even the fact they could possibly be grabbed dirt-cheap used, the hippy movement in the 60s adopted the design as the unofficial frames of the peace loving movement. Now manifesting as sunglasses and opticals, big round glasses had doubly secured their put in place pop culture history, previously being written in to the stylistic history books included in, it’s unlikely that any, but two cultural revolutions.

And it’s the fact this classic style could conjure a photo of refined, studious authority that’s meant big round framed specs haven’t strayed too far in the frame style peripheral. It’s why they’ve been the option of thinkers and visionaries alike. Most importantly, though, it’s why the frame style is originating in a major way almost a hundred years after its first foray on the frontlines of favor.

Big Rounded lenses are some of the few true timeless classics; An item of fashion history that could still pull weight today. As frames, they’re an exciting rounder. They appear top-notch small, and wirey, or massive and chunky. They could finish off a glance with a stamp of intellectualism, or they could invoke a sense care-free psychedelia. And while they are certainly not always great for rounder faces, they do an excellent job of suiting most face shape.
