Origins:
As normally happens with lots of cat breeds, the origins of Russian blue cats are rather blurry and unclear, often embellished with increased legends than facts.
One of the latter, even goes as much as to get these cats were the widely accepted pets of Russian Czars prior to the Russian revolution. The official version, though, goes that they can originated for the Archangel Isles in Russia and were eventually introduced in the uk from the 1860s where we were holding exhibited at the Crystal Palace as Archangel cats, also referred to as Spanish blue or foreign blue. The then so-called Archangel cat soon caught on both in britain and Scandinavia where it absolutely was renamed Russian blue and actively bred until World War II. These folks were officially declared a fresh breed in 1912 through the Cat Fancy Society, to prevent confusion with British Blue cats.
From the 1940s on, these folks were also crossed with Siamese cats as soon as in USA, These blue coloured cats were also developed until a whole new breed is made. These cats are actually known as Modern Russian Blue cats.
Physical description:
Regarding physical aspect, Russian Blue cats are well-built and fine-boned with graceful long limbs.
Their coat is short-specially suitable if you are allergic-and smooth. Their own personal colour is a result of the fact both blueish grey and also silver-tipped hairs let them have an overall lustrous look. What actually brings about so attractive and eye-catching is the contrast between their own personal glossy coat and their striking yellowish green eyes.
Naturally enough, only Russian blue cats with blueish grey coats are officially considered such by most Cat Societies world-wide with the sole exception in the Australian Cat Federation (ACF) that also accepts black, and white Russian blue cats consequently.
