Atlanta Artist Corey Barksdale Selected as Muralist for Dr. King Monument Project Funded by Georgia Tourism Website Grant Decatur, GA, August 16, 2016 –(PR.com)– Dublin Downtown Development Authority and Visit Dublin GA announced today that Corey Barksdale, a nationally recognized Georgia artist, may be selected as the muralist for your Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument under increase in Dublin, Georgia. The consequence of $5,000 award from the Georgia Department of monetary Development’s (GDEcD) Tourism division to invest in a mural and gateway signage once your there of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. monument, the mural is going to be located at the intersection of Church and Telfair Streets. It’s going to set the tone in creating a creative and interactive public space for tourists to see step one in Dr. King’s rise to greatness being a leader with the Civil Rights movement.
The work will put in a 54’ 7” wide by 10’ high mural on your wall of a neighboring building highlighting First African Baptist Church and Dublin, Georgia since the location of Dr. King’s first public speech in the mid 1940s. This mural by way of a Georgia artist assists as a possible additional interactive part of the monument site, offer an artistically colorful backdrop for that monument site, and make a vivid gateway for downtown Dublin. “This project presents the unique chance to not just commemorate a very important moment inside our history, but also transform a downtown gateway and add to the assortment of unique public art we now have in downtown Dublin. This is a win for everyone involved, and we’re so pleased with the support and man energy that may be poured in to the MLK Monument project,” said Tara Bradshaw, Director, Main Street Dublin.

Atlanta artist Corey Barksdale uses art to capture African American history, and promises to capture Dr. King’s speech in Dublin through color and emotion, saying, “A lot of my images are associated with the experiences i have had and how I identify myself. These subjects reflect my community. The bold colors that I use have been beside me forever.
