Every Winddancer state quilt design is planned to display facets of specific states while mixing architecture, floral, wildlife, and history into a cohesive quilt picture. Robyn works closely together with her Australian artist husband, Kevin, and every design is drawn from actual life experiences or photographs of her travels. The finished designs are generated into a computer template which is separated into layers and pieces for quilting, then many versions are designed to find the best coloring for the final quilt. Importantly, each quilt design has to be planned employing a common palette of colors. This allows blocks to be interchanged with other state and country designs, so quilters can make their very own “Travel Quilt” or “Where I’ve Lived Quilt.”Winddancer Creations quilts are made with simplicity in mind in order that entire families can enjoy making a special quilt. The State designs can be used as an eye on a family’s travel experience and some blocks, for example the Wild Mustangs block from the Utah State Quilt design, can be produced by children as early as 10-14.With Winddancer designs, color and layering are utilized extensively to produce detail.
