State Bank of India, country’s largest public sector lender, has had in a number of new rules for its customers. The financial institution is becoming world’s 45thlargest lender after merger with five sister banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank.
SBI’s new norms have to do with minimum balance requirement in savings banking accounts, amended service charges, new service tax rates, renewed locker fees, charges for availing new cheque books and much more, according to Zee News.
Most prominent among these changed rules matched to customers who hold savings accounts at metro, urban, semi-urban and rural branches. The bank makes mandatory maintenance of minimum balance in these accounts from April 1.
Here is a primer about what the changed rules entail SBI customers to do.
1) From April 1, all SBI savings bank account holders is going to be required to maintain stipulated minimum balance in their accounts. The lender has categorised its customers under metro, urban, semi-urban and rural brackets.
2) A minimum balance dependence on Rs 5,000 has been fixed with an account holder with a branch in the metro city. Similarly, account holders in urban, semi-urban and rural SBI bank branches must maintain Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.
3) SBI has additionally formulated new rules for cash transactions particularly at its automated teller machine booths. Under new rules, an SBI bank card holder is going to be allowed five free transactions at its ATMs. Besides, there will be a cost of Rs 20 for any fourth transaction for bank card holders of other banks.
The lender will start charging Rs 50 following the first three cash deposits of the month. This limit is prescribed to save accounts.
For current customers the money transaction charges can be as high as Rs 20,000
In metropolitan areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru you will see a cost of Rs 100 plus service tax, if the balance goes below 75 percent of the minimum average balance.
In the event the account holder is falling short of 50 per cent or less of the MAB.
Cash withdrawal from ATMs will be charged following your first three transaction for other banks and first five transactions from SBI ATMs.
The account holder will be charged Rs 20 following the three transactions using their company bank ATMs and will be charged Rs 10 for withdrawals from SBI ATMs.
Gone will be the charge on withdrawals from SBI ATMs in the event the account holder maintains a minimum balance of Rs 25,000

Gone will be the charge for UPI/ USSD transactions as high as Rs 1000.
